The Sea Survival certificate refresher interval was changed to 24 months in December 2015. The reduction in the validity period applied to all certificates issued from December 1 2015 and onwards.
All certificates issued up to and including November 30, 2015, are valid for 48 months and will not be re-called or re-issued with a shorter validity period.
The decision to change was agreed by the members who are dutyholders for safety reasons. Offshore wind technology develops rapidly and solutions for transfer of personnel from vessels to turbine and back have changed quickly.
This decision was welcomed by National health and safety regulators and later facilitated a changed status of personnel transported on vessels by the IMO.
