A certificate can be renewed up to two months prior to expiry, allowing you to maintain the original certification date. If a certificate is renewed more than two months before expiry date it must carry the new date of certification. If a training refresher course is completed on the day of expiry day it is valid. However, if the training is commenced but not completed before the expiry date, the course participant will not be allowed to attend a refresher training and must instead go through the basic module.
Example: if the certificate expires 1/10/2022, you can have the refresher training anytime 2 months before that and it will maintain the same cycle, however if you do the training for example 1/07/2022, since it would be more than 2 months prior the expiry date, the new date of your certificate on WINDA will be 1/07/2022.
Some GWO certificates require refresher training, others do not.
The following training standards require refresher training every two years for the certification to remain valid:
- Basic Safety Training
- Enhanced First Aid
- Advanced Rescue Training
Certificates for these standards must be refreshed before the end of their validity period.
If a certificate is allowed to expire, the full version of the course must be taken.
